President's Corner

Dear Deep South Chip Club members,

It was another low turnout at our February 21st, 2009 meeting with only eight people in attendance. We had planned to purchase the buffet at the Island View for everyone who came. Those who attended had a great meal and a good time!

We don't know what direction to take to increase attendance at our meetings. If there is no longer any interest in the club we might as well dissolve. We'd hate to see it come to that. If you recall, it was to prevent that very thing from happening that I accepted my office initially. We are also in need of a secretary and nobody seems to want to volunteer for that position. Debbie (Treasurer/Acting Secretary) and I have made the commitment to hold the next three meetings and then we'll see what happens.

Several people come from long distances and very few of us show up to trade or sell. There has been discussion on DSCC becoming just a trading club, but even at that, if no one shows up, then that won't last very long either. And the sessions would still have to be planned and organized.

Some new chips became available on the coast recently and some of our members went after them while in town for the meeting. Everett has the scoop on those. Some new players cards are available too.

I had a call from Island View this week that we do not have rooms available for the next three meetings. This is definitely a change in direction!

The next meeting is scheduled for May 16, 2009 and we need input on a meeting location. Please email me ideas. If we do have the next meeting, bring some items to trade or sell and bring a friend. Looking forward to seeing or hearing from everyone soon.

Bob Reed
